Buckstones jump

Price

£20.00

The walk up to **Buckstones Jump** is a short, incredibly rewarding trek that morphs beautifully from manicured estate to wild fellside. Starting from the historic grounds of **Rydal Hall** (and right past its lovely formal gardens), you follow a gentle, undulating trail alongside Rydal Beck. The initial stretch wraps you in dense, sheltered woodland, guiding you past a series of roaring cascades and hidden emerald pools—including the impressive High Falls. As you push further up, the trees thin out and give way to a gradual, open climb across the rugged fellside, rewarding you with brilliant, sweeping views back down towards Windermere. After about 1.3 miles of a steady but manageable incline, you'll reach the "Jump" itself: an absolute paradise for wild swimmers, featuring a deep plunge pool, smooth rock shelves to sunbathe on, and a tiny shingle beach carved out of the mountain landscape.

Plenty of Water: There are no facilities on the trail, so bring a bottle to stay hydrated during the steady climb.

Fuel and Food: Pack a picnic or some high-energy snacks. The smooth rock shelves right by the water are the ultimate spot to sit, eat, and take in the Lakeland views.

A Full Change of Clothes: If you plan on taking the plunge, the mountain water is bracingly cold year-round. Packing a warm change of clothes—including thick socks and a windproof layer—is crucial for warming your core back up as soon as you dry off.

A Lightweight Towel & Sturdy Footwear: A quick-dry towel is a lifesaver, and while the walk isn't a technical mountain climb, the path can be muddy and uneven, so proper walking shoes or boots are a must.
